Today’s Sarasota (FL) Herald-Tribune, page B1 “At festival, a taste of Islam”, reports that the Sarasota mosque last week trained for active shooter scenarios.
That’s right — the local Islamic mosque is afraid somebody might come in and shoot up their mosque. Now, such a scenario is not all that unlikely if there is a continuation of Islamic terrorism in this country. And given that Islamics do not cooperate with the FBI in investigating terrorism, who can rule such a scenario out?
But do you get the irony here? The Islamists know all too well how vulnerable and “soft” a target a mosque is (do you want to say they wrote the book on it?).
Most churches, on the other hand, have NO plan to deal with an active shooter or any less threat. Oh yes, some erroneously think that having people with Carry Permits is a plan, but it is nothing more than a plan for disaster. Well-meaning but untrained, unskilled shooters responding from every direction (by people with no more training than the shot in the bucket they probably had for their CWL course), and the carnage could be immense. And no church is prepared to deal with the immediate decimation of their congregation and income when a scenario goes bad , as most people will never return. Failing to plan is planning to fail… and this is no more true than in church security.
We help churches develop plans to protect their people. Forward this blog link to your pastor.
