There is much to learn about church security from this attack, as it played out very similarly to active shooters in churches. As “soft” zones, they expected and found no resistance. “Gun-free zones” are among the most dangerous places on earth. This is not entirely true of most churches but the lack of a coherent plan beyond congregants having carry permits renders most church plans inert.
It should be noted that the shooters were long gone — and 14 dead and another 17 injured — BEFORE the first police officer arrived. This is unusual as these are almost always suicide missions. It is suspected that these Muslim terrorists were on their way to another site.
Take a moment to reflect on the ammo capacity of your primary piece. We all carry for convenience and comfort. I am as guilty as anybody. Better to carry something than nothing, right?! The cops who took them down fired an average of 15.8 rounds each, while receiving semi-automatic rifle fire. If you are cornered by a miscreant with a 30 round mag, can you survive? (the answer is yes, if you have planned and trained)
One last note on training… at least one of them was range training prior to the event. Your killers are practicing to be sure they get you…. what are you doing?
