The Fed Govt. keeps a “No-Fly” List of people who are not allowed on flights in the US. On the surface it sounds like a good idea to keep these people from buying guns. But wait…
Are you on the No-Fly list? How do you know? You are not told when you are put on it. You discover it at the airport. You say you flew last week? You may have been put on it yesterday…. you don’t know. Who decides who goes on the list? Nobody will say…somebody in the FBI How do you get off of it? There is no way to get off of it. The FBI cannot take you off. The DHS cannot take you off, though they use the list. A court cannot order you be taken off the list. Often something as simple as a similar name to a suspect is enough to keep you from flying, as has happened many times since 9/11. But there is no appeal.
Flying is a privilege that nobody should be denied without just cause. This country is about due process and having the opportunity to face a complainant in court. Take it one step more and we are talking about a RIGHT — the right to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by The Constitution. If the President has his way, you can be placed on this list at the whim of a nameless bureaucrat and can never sue, appeal or have your day in court. No more 2nd Amendment rights for you. Is there anybody who believes that such power would not be abused?
