The Free Dictionary defines “victim” thusly:
“One who is harmed or killed by another, especially by someone committing a criminal or unlawful act.”
Nobody chooses to be a victim, right? RIGHT!!!???
We all know people who we have described as having a victim mentality. We also know of people who have gotten victimized because of their own lack of foresight and/or common sense.
So, do people “choose” to be a victim? Generally not, at least not directly, but the better question is, “have you made a conscious decision to minimize the chance that you will be a victim?” Have you chosen specifically to NOT be a victim?
This is just wordplay, some will say. But it is most certainly not. The fact is that you can live your life in such a way that predators will more likely NOT choose you as their victim.
We’ve all watched TV shows or Facebook reels about animals hunting in Africa or somewhere. Their choice of victims is anything but random. Lack of situational awareness, lack of experience, isolation, and desperation are just a few of the things that can make you attractive prey. There are also factors that you cannot control such as your age, physique, stature and gender (sorry, Leftists),
As a professional armed self-defense instructor, it is clear to me that a person’s most important weapon is their brain. They are never unarmed, if they choose to recognize it. But I hate to think about the people I have had to listen to opine that they could never hurt somebody or shoot somebody… that they would rather be killed than hurt somebody else… or if somebody broke in to their home with a gun, they would hit them with a lamp.
Let’s talk grown-up:
You are responsible for keeping yourself safe, since others depend on you. It is not the government’s job.
You are responsible for keeping your kids safe. They depend on you, and society is built on this.
You have the right to be safe within your home, and to treat any intruder as a hostile willing to cause death or grave bodily injury.
You have the right to be safe as you travel about in public, and to carry a firearm (where legally permitted) to enforce it.
You have the right not to be raped.
You have the right not to be attacked.
You have a right not to be carjacked (while you are in it).
You have a right not be robbed with threat of lethal force.
YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO RESCUE YOURSELF FROM ALL THESE AND ANY OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES. Please, if you don’t know the police are not coming to help, or at least not in time, then you are seriously uniformed.
Victimization is the result of the predator perceiving weakness in the prey. Given the opportunity, predators will do what predators do, without remorse.
If you are of the misguided political persuasion and by some miracle are still reading, you can wish there were no guns. You can pretend genetics causes crime. You can defund police so crime becomes more attractive. You can pretend hunks of metal cause crime like forks cause obesity. Make no mistake about it – gun control serves to remove guns from the poorest and weakest members of society. Driving up the cost of guns and ammo and creating imaginary lists of the more “dangerous” guns only serves to keep them away from those who need them, such as those who must live in high-crime areas, people being stalked and people who are smaller or weaker, which describes many females. Guns are a great equalizer.
So, what is a normal-thinking individual to do?
First of all, decide in your head that UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES will you allow yourself to be victimized by violence.
But that is not enough… without training, your brain will have no idea how to recognize and avoid potential dangers and/or how to respond as they unfold.
We train people in skills, but also in tactics and mindset. These include how to successfully participate in a gunfight, if one is necessary, and how to develop confidence through training and practice that shows.
While you’re at it, fight the concept of “gun-free zones” which are the most dangerous places in America (and now you know why – compliant victims are expected to be in abundance).
Fight for arming willing teachers. That is a no-brainer.
Fight for every aspect of the 2nd Amendment. If any part of it fails, the rest is severely weakened.
Buy a gun, and then buy another. Buy more ammo than you can imagine using. Train with us. Practice.
A lethal-force attack is no joke and it will require every resource you have at your disposal. You will not perform above the level of your basic practice skills. This is not magic. Forget the “mama bear” thing. You need to train for real. The skill you left the range with last time will be the best you can hope for, less the loss from time passing, the element of surprise used against you, lack of tactical training and your lack of confidence in your abilities.
So many treat defensive guns as luxuries and training even more so. Yes, when money is tight the fluffs get passed on by in budgeting. You don’t always need a gun like you need electricity or food. But when you need a gun, you NEED it! There is no substitute that will do. And not just that… you need to exhibit confidence in its handling and use if you want to prevail. I have been shooting way more than 30 years. I can tell you that I need more practice now than I ever thought I did before.
I have Instructor Certifications left and right… and I need to train more, and I do.
I have law enforcement experience and training credentials… and I need more guns and ammo, and I buy.
I am trained and I do train armed security… and my skills are not nearly enough, so I work harder.
Enough for what? To GUARANTEE that I will prevail in a lethal force attack.
You see, I have decided that I will NEVER lose such an attack. Even though I am not likely to be attacked, the potential negative consequences of being attacked are so absolutely abhorrent that I am not willing to accept them at any percentage – ZERO. That is why we train – the alternative is unthinkable.
Train with us… train like your life depends on it. It may.
